Nieuw zeekabelsysteem Telesur in april 2010 klaar

Nickerie - De aanleg van het nieuwe zeekabelsysteem waarmee Telesur samen met GT&T bezig is, zal in april 2010 opgeleverd worden. Volgens waarnemend Telesur directeur Frits Purperhart is de aanschaf reeds op 29 december 2008 bekrachtigd middels de ondertekening van de samenwerkingsovereenkomst tussen de Surinaamse telecomgigant en de Guyana Telephone & Telegraph company. Purperhart gaf mee dat de leverancier van de zeekabel in handen ligt van Global Marine System en dat de zeekabel zal lopen tussen Suriname en Trinidad met een aftappunt naar Guyana. De investering die hiermee gemoeid gaat, bedraagt 54 miljoen Amerikaanse dollars waarbij Telesur zelf inkomt met een bedrag van 31 miljoen dollars. Dit zeekabelsysteem draagt de naam van de Suriname Guyana Submarine System.

Aanleg onderzeese kabel

Om de internationale glasvezelkabel aan te sluiten op het bestaande Telesur-netwerk in Suriname zal de landkabel, die via Coronie binnen zal komen, bestaan uit drie posities waar er een verbinding gemaakt zal worden van Totness naar Paramaribo en een die zal lopen van Totness naar Nieuw Nickerie. Purperhart heeft verder gezegd dat als derde een verbinding zal worden gemaakt vanuit Paramaribo naar Albina. Deze landkabel zal verder dienen als de verbinding en restauratie tussen het bestaande America’s II zeekabelsysteem en de nieuwe SG-SCS. Aangegeven is dat met deze dienstverlening de behorende garantie van de diensten drastisch verbeterd zal worden.

De waarnemend Telesur directeur heeft verder uit de doeken gedaan dat het bedrijf op woensdag 5 mei al de officiële contracten met UCC heeft getekend. UCC is belast met het landkabelproject. Bij deze investering is een bedrag van ruim zes miljoen Amerikaanse dollars gemoeid, waarbij ook is gesteld dat de aanlegwerkzaamheden negen maanden in beslag zullen nemen. Purperhart zegt ervan overtuigd te zijn dat het project succesvol zal verlopen.

De Telesur topper zegt dat het bedrijf meer dan 50 miljoen investeert in het zeekabelproject en de daarbij behorende subprojecten zoals het nieuwe zeekabelsysteem (31 miljoen USD), de aanleg van de landkabel (6 miljoen USD) en de overige investeringen die 16 miljoen USD bedragen. Het laatste gedeelte komt erop neer dat er een upgrading komt van de Telesur capaciteit op de America’s II zeekabel en de aanschaf van apparatuur. Purperhart zegt dat met deze gigantische investering het bedrijf gevolg zal geven aan de missie die luidt dat het bedrijf voorziet in de behoefte van haar klanten. Dit op zowel haar landelijk als internationaal netwerksystemen. Op vrijdag heeft Telesur in de conferentiezaal van Pak Hap Hotel een bijeenkomst gehad met stakeholders. Het bedrijf hoopt dat samen met alle stakeholders de service verder geoptimaliseerd zal worden.

Telesur/Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Co Chooses Global Marine Systems for Suriname-Guyana Submarine Cable System (S-GSCS) Network

The system design utilises HMN’s cutting edge optical transmission and OptiX BWS 1600S SLTE product which in recent years, has enjoyed significant success in submarine system upgrades.
